Stephen Marley – Babylon By Bus Tour with Jesse Royal and Roots of Creation
with special guests Jesse Royal and Roots Creation Stephen Marley is an award-winning singer, songwriter and producer. From his solo works to family collaborations and production credits, Stephen Marley’s music has earned him eight Grammy Awards. He is the second eldest son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Rita Marley, raised in Kingston, Jamaica. Stephen started singing professionally at 7 years old with his elder siblings Ziggy, Sharon and Cedella in The Melody Makers. Stephen has garnered recognition as a solo artist for his Grammy-winning albums Mind Control (dubbed “the best Marley album in a generation” by Entertainment Weekly), Mind Control Acoustic and Revelation Part I: The Root of Life, while also receiving multiple Grammys as as a producer – most notably for Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley’s massive cross-over hit Welcome To Jamrock. The second installment of Stephen Marley’s Revelation album series, Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life, was released in 2016 on the Marley family’s Ghetto Youths International label. Whereas The Root of Life offered a traditional roots reggae album, The Fruit of Life emphasized the far-reaching impact Jamaican music has had on various genres – especially hip hop. Album guests included Rick Ross, Pit Bull, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes, Wyclef Jean, Shaggy and more. In 2018, Stephen Marley released a five-track EP, One Take: Acoustic Jams, which showcased raw, deconstructed versions of his and his father’s original songs. He took that stripped-down set on the road, performing for thousands during three North American tours, before the pandemic hit in 2020. Summer 2022 marks the triumphant return of Stephen’s North American “Babylon By Bus” Tour which includes a cavalcade of hand-picked support artists appearing at various venues across the country, including a sold-out tour kickoff at Red Rocks Amphitheater with Ziggy Marley and Ben Harper. Additional dates will include Skip Marley, Kabaka Pyramid, Hirie and Mike Love with more to be announced. In recent years, Stephen Marley established his own Kaya Fest as an annual music festival that debuted in 2017, featuring rare family performances by The Marley Brothers and the Marley’s 3rd Generation of talented offspring, alongside notable reggae and hip-hop legends such as Wycelf Jean, Pit Bull, Busta Rhymes – instilling an experiential component to raise awareness on the benefits of cannabis guided by the mantra “Education Before Recreation.” Plans to continue this festival tradition is currently in the works for 2023. You can capsulize most pop music acts by reciting how many hits they’ve had and how many millions of albums they’ve sold. But these conventional measurements fall short when you’re assessing the impact of The Beach Boys. This band has birthed a torrent of hit singles and sold albums by the tens of millions. But its greater significance lies in the fact that The Beach Boys’ songs have forever changed the musical landscape, profoundly influencing countless performing artists to follow. The band is led by Mike Love, who, along with longtime member Bruce Johnston, musical director Scott Totten, Brian Eichenberger, Christian Love, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill, Keith Hubacher and Randy Leago, continue the legacy of the iconic group. It could have rested on the success of the epoch-shifting Pet Sounds masterpiece in 1966… or after Mike Love’s concept album Endless Summer ignited a second generation of Beach Boys fans and stirred a tempest that rocked the music world… or after recording Love’s co-written Golden Globe nominated “Kokomo” in 1988 and seeing it become its best selling single ever… or after being inducted that same year into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame… or after watching its worldwide album sales blow past l00 million… or after winning the NARAS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001 [along with The Who, Bob Marley, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr. and Les Paul]. And still, The Beach Boys continue to have fun, fun, fun, with no end in sight.Love’s role as the band’s front man sometimes overshadows his stature as one of rock’s foremost songwriters. “Surfin’,” The Beach Boys’ first hit came from his pen. Presently, he continues to bring new, creative projects to his dedicated fans year after year. In 2020, he debuted his latest single, “This Too Shall Pass,” featuring special guest John Stamos. Released at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, he wrote the song to remind everyone that better days are yet to come. In 2019, Love released 12 Sides of Summer, a collection of original songs, covers and fresh takes on hits including George Harrison’s “Here Comes the Sun,” The Dave Clark Five’s “Over and Over and Over Again,” as well as updated renditions of The Beach Boys’ “Surfin,” “Surfin’ Safari” and “It’s Ok,” featuring Hanson. The song marked Love’s second recording with Hanson, after previously collaborating on “Finally it’s Christmas” for Love’s 2018 holiday album, Reason For The Season, which also features vocals from Love’s children: Ambha, Brian, Christian, and Hayleigh Love. “A life of making music is truly a blessed life” – words from Nancy Wilson that ring true, and she continues to be inspired year after year. Nancy Wilson is celebrated as a seminal musician in rock ‘n’ roll history. A guitar virtuoso from the age of 9, Nancy (and her sister Ann) lead the multi-platinum rock group, Heart, who have sold upwards of 35 million albums. Nancy is revered as an ingenious guitar player, and as a gifted lead vocalist. During an era when females in rock ‘n’ roll were scarce, Nancy helped to carve out a place for women to front rock bands, and dominate on stage. Her icon status was cemented when Heart was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. That same year, she and her sister received a Star on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood. In 2013, the Wilson Sisters celebrated another career milestone when they performed Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven” at the Kennedy Center Honors. Their note-perfect performance was met with rousing cheers and a standing ovation in the staid concert hall, and brought members of Led Zeppelin to tears. On the evening of December 1st, 1973 at The University of Delaware’s Lane Hall, a guitarist, a drummer, and their rhythm guitarist set up on the small bandstand. Though the three-piece band had barely rehearsed, guitarist George Thorogood and drummer Jeff Simon had been bashing out covers of songs they loved – including ‘No Particular Place To Go’, ‘Madison Blues’ and ‘One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer’ – in suburban Wilmington basements since they were teens.
